  • Attempted to start vehicle and battery is dead. Charged battery for several hours and tested. After full load test the battery passed. Tested charging system and it is putting out 14.1 volts. Alternator is good at this time. Confirmed glow plug harness issue. Needs new glow plug harness. After installing new glow plug harness, vehicle starts up perfect every time. Test drove vehicle several times and no issues found. No sure why this car died in the first place. Very odd. If any other symptoms or issues come up please let us know. All is okay at this time.

  • Pulled truck into shop for inspection. Checked all fluids and found that the power steering fluid was slightly low (topped off) Also noticed that the engine oil was about a 1qt low (topped off) Transfer case fluid is very dark. (Recommend service) Cooling system is very acidic (6.5ph and no freeze protection) Recommend service. Inspected all steering suspension and brakes. Front brakes are down to 3mm of life and highly recommend replacing before a long trip. Drive line center support bearing rubber is torn and this will cause a vibration (needs replaced ASAP) Ball joints have minor play (okay at this time) and all tie rod ends have play (needs replaced but not a safety issue) Inspected engine and did noticed a small oil leak on the front crank seal area. Recommend putting dye in the oil so we can pin point this leak in the future. Checked 4wd operation and it is working properly at this time. Parking brake holds properly. (okay at this time) Test drove truck and notice that the fuel gauge is reading empty. We have notes about this issue from previous visits. Recommend removing fuel tank and sweep testing fuel level sending unit. If this unit test bad then replacement will be needed.
  • -Removed the front wheels and brake calipers to the side. Removed the rotors and replaced with new and applied a non directional finish to help the new pads break in correctly. Cleaned the caliper slides and reassembled with new front brake pads with anti-squeal to the backing. Repacked the front wheel bearings and replaced new seals as needed. Torqued the calipers and wheels to specs then road tested. Burnished in the front pads on the road test. The brakes work good.
  • #3 CENTER SUPPORT BEARING – Remove & Replace
  • #4 FUEL GAUGE TANK UNIT – Remove & Replace
  • #5 Service transfer case fluid.
  • Positioned vehicle on lift as needed. Evacuated the radiator and engine of coolant as much as possible. Refilled with correct type and freezing protection level and added a PH balance to reduce electrolysis. Pressure tested. No leaks at this time. Road tested, OK.
  • #7 LOF – Lube, Oil, Filter (Full Service)
  • Our technician removed the old fuel filters and installed new filters. He then test ran the engine and inspected for leaks. No leaks found and service is completed.

  • Scanned computer for codes and found P0678 glow plug #8 and P0676 glow plug #6. Tested these 2 glow plugs and found that they are very rusty and there is a chance they could break when removing from cylinder head. Both these glow plugs fail the ohms test.
  • Checked for climate control DTCs and none were found. Tested system while watching data with scan tool. Found controller commanding actuators to almost full cold when temp was lowered by 1 degree. Also found re circulation door will only work intermittently when commanded. Recommend replacing the climate control head unit and re-test system for proper operation.
  • Inspection completed. See attached worksheet
  • #4 LUBE OIL AND FILTER CHANGE
  • Remove old filter, remove water sensor, clean as needed and install into new premium 2 micron fuel filter. Install filter, purge the air from the system as needed and test run the engine, checking for leakage.
  • Upon replacing #6 and #8 glow plugs. Tech states they are very rusty. Soaked both glow plugs overnight to help remove these rusty glow plugs. #6 glow plug connector broke off, but tech was still able to get glow plug out. #8 glow plug head broke off of glow plug. Tech was unable to get glow plug to come out. At this point the only thing we could do is possibly ad a resistor to #8 glow plug wire to keep check engine light from coming back on or the head will have to be removed in order to get this glow plug out. One glow plug will not cause a starting issue.

  • Technician confirmed the P2290 code, ICP Too Low. Engine has a miss, smokes when revved up with pressure slow to build when the truck is cold. Technician ran the engine for about 4 minutes then tried to restart the truck and it would not refire. The ICP is only building 300psi. Unplugged the module from the sensor and it would only build 250psi, this indicates a high pressure oil leak or IPR valve. Performed a high pressure oil test and heard a severe leak around the High Pressure Oil Pump area on the passenger side where the pump outlet is. Technician suspects the STC fitting at the pump is leaking or the pump itself is leaking.

  • Tried to start truck and both batteries are completely dead. Charged batteries for several hours before we could get the truck to turn over. Load tested both batteries and both failed test. Performed a starter draw test and found starter is drawing more than double what factory spec is for amperage. When cranking engine the starter is killer the power to scan tool. Looking through history, we have a note the says the customer has had to hit the starter with a hammer to get engine to turn over. Needs batteries and a new starter. Scanned computer for codes and found V0105 lost communication with fuel injection control module. Test drove truck for several miles, and then ran engine at high RPM for over an hour. Truck has not acted up. Also tried the wiggle test on injector harness with no effect. After reading through the all the history we have on this truck, this truck has come in to the shop 2 times and had all 8 injector codes set. Highly doubt this is a wiring issue. We unplugged the edge unit suspecting this is the cause of all the issues. Edge is still plugged in. Did customer plug the Edge back in? Recommend leaving the Edge unplugged and driving the truck. It takes so many miles for it to act up, we recommend that the customer takes the truck with the Edge unplugged and report back after several miles of driving time.

  • Has new plugs, coils and fuel filter. This helped a little, but still is not running right. Pulled van into the shop for inspection and did noticed that there was a fuel cap message on the dash. Inspected fuel cap and found that it is the wrong cap and will not thread in and seal tight. Install the correct cap and now this message is gone. Did confirm engine miss when pulling into the shop for inspection. Scanned computer for codes and found P0171 bank 1 too lean, P0174 bank 2 too lean, P0301 cylinder 1 misfire detected and P0457 Evap system leak detected. Fuel cap fixed the P0457 Evap code. Removed cylinder #1 coil and swapped it with cylinder #5 and now engine is setting a code for cylinder #5 misfire. This proves cylinder #1 coil is bad. Needs new coil and boot.
  • Inspection completed. See attached worksheet

  • -Removed the rear wheel and brake calipers. Removed the rotors and replaced with new and applied a non directional finish to help the new pads break in correctly. Repacked rear wheel bearings and replaced seals as needed. Adjusted the rear park brakes to specs. Torqued the wheels to specs then road tested. Burnished in the rear pads on the road test. The brakes work good.
